About FOES
Hello and welcome to the Friends of Edlesborough School. FOES is the PTA for Edlesborough School. At the moment it comprises a committee of around ten parents who organise and run events designed to raise funds for the school; provide the children with extra-curricular activities; and provide the parents with some fun.
In an ideal world we would expect the government, through the local authority, to provide whatever funding was necessary for the school. The reality, particularly in these times of austerity, is somewhat different. Government/Local Authority funding provides the basics for schools, but nowadays most schools need to raise additional funds to provide things that the central budget does not allow for. There are many items which the school would like to have to improve the conditions for pupils and enhance its ability to educate the children which are not financed from central funding. FOES has raised over £30,000 in the last three years to help bridge this gap and povide these 'extras'. In that time it has funded over £36,000 of school spending specifically targeted at improving conditions for our children - the extra £6,000 having come from prior year fund raising.
A significant sum of money has been spent on books and the new library, together with contributions towards sports kit, IT equipment and musical instruments to mention just a few.
Funds are raised in a variety of ways most of which involve either the children or us parents (or both) having fun. For the children this includes school discos, hot dog days and ice cream days; and for the adults it includes the Summer Fayre, Christmas events and evenings out.
FOES run events throughout the year. Members and helpers participate in as many or as few as they choose. The committee meets each half-term for an evening to plan and organise fund-raising events and agree how existing funding should be spent. Outside of the committee we have a large number of parents who make themselves available to help out either on a regular basis e.g. disco helpers or an ad hoc basis to organise a particular event. Both of these are essential to FOES wellbeing.
We very much welcome your support.
