ADMISSIONS and TRANSFER TO SECONDARY SCHOOL
Edlesborough School is a Buckinghamshire Local Education Authority Community School. The education office is situated in County Hall, Aylesbury, HP20 1UX, telephone 01296 395000.
We extend a warm welcome to all interested parents and children to visit the school and meet the Headteacher. As from September 2010 all admissions to Edlesborough School are dealt with by the LEA and application forms must be submitted through the admissions team at County Hall.
The School will be hosting an open morning on October 18th 2011 between 9:30 and 11:00 when all are welcome to visit. For visits at any other time please telephone and make an appointment prior to visiting.
Admission to the Early Years Reception Class
Edlesborough School admits up to 30 children into the foundation stage in accordance with the Buckinghamshire Admissions Policy. The school admits children from the villages of Edlesborough, Northall, Ivinghoe Aston and Dagnall. Many children from other local villages also attend.
Children start Edlesborough School before the Statutory School Age:1. All children must have started school full time by the start of the term after their 5th birthday.
Parents then have the following choices:
2. All pupils who have their 5th birthday in the academic year September 2010 to August 2011 will be able to start school in September 2010 if parents wish.
3. Parents can choose whether to start their child in the September or January. (They must be full time by the start of the term after their 5th Birthday.)
4. Parents can choose whether their child is full time or part time. (They must be full time by the start of the term after their 5th Birthday.)
In order to assist with planning for staffing and preparation of resources, parents will be asked to indicate their intended starting date by the induction day for new starters in July.
Visits
In order to prepare children for school and familiarise them with the classroom environment, we encourage a number of pre- school visits in the term before starting school. The School has good links with Edlesborough Playgroup and children attending the playgroup make several visits prior to starting school. Those children about to start school who do not attend Edlesborough Playgroup are also encouraged to visit prior to starting and this can be arranged with the Foundation Stage teacher.
All parents of new children are invited to attend a welcome meeting in the Summer term before admission. The children are invited to attend an induction session in the term before they start school. Parents are offered a home visit by a member of the Reception Team immediately prior to their child starting school in September.
Intake in September is staggered with all children attending for half a day only for the first week; split between mornings and afternoons. This enables children to settle and become familiarised with the school routines.
Admission to Year 3 from Dagnall Infants School
Edlesborough School admits up to 10 children into Year 3 from the Dagnall Infant School in accordance with the Buckinghamshire Admissions Policy.
• Children who join Edlesborough School after completing their first two years of education at the village school at Dagnall are invited to Edlesborough for a day during the Summer term before they start in September.
• The Headteachers of Edlesborough School and Dagnall School meet on a regular basis. In the summer term, the Headteacher of Dagnall invites parents of the Dagnall children to a welcome meeting with the Head of Edlesborough at Dagnall School, where there is an opportunity to raise any questions or concerns. Parents of the Dagnall children are also invited to visit Edlesborough in groups or on an individual basis as preferred.
Admission from other Schools• For children transferring from other schools, we encourage parents to arrange a visit for their children prior to starting at Edlesborough to ease the transition and familiarise the children with their new school.
Allocation Criteria
If there are more preferences for places at Edlesborough School than can be met, places are allocated in accordance with the Buckinghamshire Admissions Policy for Community and Voluntary Controlled Primary Schools for September 2010 (available from the Buckinghamshire County Education Department or the Edlesborough School office). From September 2010 admission to Edlesborough School will be managed directly by County Hall.
Transfer to Secondary School
In Buckinghamshire a selective education policy operates, which means that children may sit an 11+ test if parents wish, to assess the secondary school most suited to them. After leaving Edlesborough, the majority of children transfer to The Cottesloe School at Wing or one of the three Grammar Schools in Aylesbury. We maintain close links with all the partner Secondary Schools.
Parents of children in Year 5 are invited to attend an information evening at Edlesborough School on the Transfer to Secondary School Process. The parents of children in Year 6 are invited to visit the Secondary Schools prior to the selection procedure, and again before their children transfer. The children in Year 6 make day visits to their new schools during the Summer term before they leave. Representative staff from these schools also visit Edlesborough during the Summer term to meet individually with the children who will be joining them in September.
